IMAGES AND PHOTOS IN ERUPTION ON THE ACTIVES VOLCANOES OF THE WORLD Travels and Discovery of Volcanoes in VANUATU - AMBRYM and TANNA

Experience and discovery of the volcanic activity in VANUATU
during our volcano expedition in JULY, 2018 with our VolcanoDiscovery Team and the volcanologist, Yashmin CHEBLI.

TANNA – YASUR Volcano

The activity of the Yasur volcano remains stable and permanent, with strombolian eruptions in both craters. The degassing is permanent in the both craters. At present day, the first WSW crater contains 3 incandescent vents, which eject regularly scorias and ashes, all 3 to 5 minutes. The level of the lava inside the ENE crater is deeper and by intense outgassing, we observe a chimney-sweeping of the eruptive conduit forming some ashes plumes well loaded and gases plumes all 10 to 15 min.

AMBRYM – MARUM and BENBOW Volcanoes

On Ambrym island, the volcanic activity is permanent and continuous. Since January, 2018, there was a reactivation of the Niri Membelsu crater with a powerful degassing and at present day, the lava lake is incandescent. The level of the Lava lake of Marum went up and is subject to an huge and persistent brewing of the lava lake caused by intense convection currents and gas bursting within the lava lake. A permanent bubbling.
During this expedition, we approached very closely the incandescent lava lake of Benbow, at 25 m over its surface. Its level of lava is slightly lower than last year, and its visible extent is 40 m x 30 m. Its intense thermal convection provokes important waves of incandescent lava which rush under the first terrace of the vent or which crash on the internal walls of the crater. A real show of immense fire with a powerful admixture of gases, very intense and lava fountains rising at 25 m to 30 m high.
